Swales are a vital and integral part of any permaculture design and can be used on small scale such as seen at Teylu to large scale.

Swales are a vital system for the management of water resource Collection, Erosion control, Flood control, top soil management, and are integral regenerative support system for food forests and agroforestry. Swales provide the maximum abundance of growing space and conditions for any grade of sloping land. They are vital to help restore the land after fires also.
 
Wombat will provide a comprehensive explanation about swales, what are they for, how do they work, swale design, what is a contour and how to set out and place swales on contours. We will make an A Frame to use for marking out the swales. Then together we put our boots on and will set out and construct a swale system, plant and mulch it.
 
The workshop will provide you with the skills and knowledge to design and create swales, how and where to place them, right through to planting food forests and mulching.
You will get to see how swales can be constructed by hand and larger scale by Earth works machines.
